Real-time analysis without chromatography

IonSense DART and SIFT-MS: fast screening of many samples

In production laboratories, there is often a large daily flow of analyzes of organic components. It takes up a lot of instrument time and is therefore a heavy load on GCMS and LCMS equipment.

One solution to the problem may be to reduce the analysis time considerably by skipping the chromatography part and screening the samples using only the MS equipment.

We have two different solutions

  • SIFT-MS typically for smaller components (the substances must have a certain volatility).
  • IonSense DART for “larger” components (non-volatile substances can also be analyzed).

Rapid analyzes, of course, have their limitations. The results can be semi-quantitative and / or only indicative in terms of identification.

But if you within a short time can sort out, for example, 85% of your possible samples, then there is only 15% left for a detailed analysis …

SIFT-MS

Real-time analysis of VOCs (volatility typically up to C15-alkane)

SIFT-MS is based on a triple Q MS, where reactant ions are selected and selectively react with the analytes of the sample by ion-molecule reactions in the collision cell region. This achieves a high degree of selectivity WITHOUT the use of chromatography.

The instrument is often combined with a GERSTEL headspace sampler, allowing analysis times of 1-2 min. per sample.

IonSense DART

Real-time analysis (from medium VOCs to non-volatile compounds)

This is an external ionization source for an LC type MS of your choice (can be mounted on virtually any LCMS instrument). It scans the samples mounted in 1/12/96/384 positions, respectively, and the analysis time is <1 min.

DART is also a must for synthesis chemists.

Sensitivity: low ppb / high ppt range.

Flexible solutions with DART-SVP

SVP has built-in automation and also the option of placing various modules in the beam line.

Depending on the module, between 10 and 384 samples can be analyzed in series and thus make full use of the short analysis time.
