Training course overview

The training course is aimed at new users of HPLC, and it contains a theoretical as well as practical introduction to the subject.
The participant will build HPLC methods and perform practical work with the instrumenation at hand.
We use simple HPLC instrumentation from Agilent, but as such the course is not instrument-specific, and it will be relevant also for people not using instrumentation from Agilent Technologies.

Training course contents

• Introduction to liquid chromatography and to chromatographic parameters (resolution, efficiency..)
• HPLC instrumental basics: solvent delivery system, degasser, high-pressure pump, autosampler, column thermostat, column, and detector.
• Choice of eluent composition , columns, and setting up HPLC methods.
• Practical excercises with HPLC instrumentation.
• Qualitative and quantitative HPLC analysis.
• Standard checkout and maintenance procedures, and simple troubleshooting.

Training methodology

The training course consists of a mixture of theory overview and practical work with HPLC instrumentation in our laboratory.

Course prerequisites

A basic understanding of chromatography will be an advantage, but it is not mandatory.
No prior experience with HPLC is required.
The course runs over three consecutive days, and is not instrument specific.

Instrumentation

We use Agilent 1200 and 1100 HPLC instrumentation for the illustration of construction priciples and for a number of simpler practical excercies.
