For the more complicated samples

Water analysis can be complicated if the sample contains a large proportion of suspended substances and foreign particles. Liquid-Liquid extraction is one possibility, but is relatively demanding regarding solvent and time.
MASE is a variety where the liquid phases are separated with a semi-permeable membrane and offer solvent extraction with low volumes of solvent. The solvent addition, and the extraction procedure is done automatically by the MPS. The novel procedure for sample preparation was developed by the Environmental Research Centre Leipzig-Halle, and 100% automated by GERSTEL:

  • The sample is transferred to a vial, and the vial closed including the MASE membrane. The vial is placed in the autosampler.
  • The extraction solvent is added to the MASE enclosure.
  • The vial is moved to the Agitator for a specific length of time and temperature.
  • After extraction is completed, the extracts can be directly injected into GC or GC/MS systems by Large Volume Injection LVI.
